Thoralf Abgarjan One thing is certain: Dr Thoralf Abgarjan is a multi-talented musician. Born in Halle (Saale), Germany, in 1967 and raised there as well, he took his first steps towards music when he was seven years old with a classical piano education – in order to study mathematics and physics many years later. Does that sound peculiar? Far from it. The combination of music and natural sciences as a passion and a profession gave him a firm foundation when it came to developments in electronic musical instruments. MIDI and music production on the computer at the end of the 1980s were a big influence on him, and he is still actively involved in the area today. He not only plays the piano and keyboard masterfully, he also produces music for the advertising sector and a variety of artists in the studio, and he teaches and writes technical books and piano arrangements. Abgarjan produced the ‘Step by Step’ DVD series for Tyros, Tyros2 and PSR-S-900. He also conducts symposia on current trends in sound generation. Abgarjan has worked for Yamaha since 1990. He has given many performances in Germany and abroad, and was involved in programming styles for instruments such as the digital piano, keyboard and groove box throughout the 1990s. His motto is ‘No preconceived notions’, and he follows it to the letter. Musically speaking, nothing is impossible with Abgarjan.
